Cooking assistant

Job Purpose:

To prepare and cook hot, healthy and nutritious meals for the Connect4Summer project whilst maintaining food preparation areas to health and safety standards of hygiene at all times.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To be part of the Connect4Summer team, communicate effectively and support the team in preparing and delivering food for the project
  • To liaise as necessary with the Head Chef
  • To prepare meals following the recipes and menus supplied by the Head Chef
  • To portion, arrange and garnish food based on specifications of the Head Chef
  • To prepare animal meat based on specifications of the recipes supplied by the Head Chef
  • To be aware of any food allergy relating to meals prepared for specific children or families and maintain high levels of separation to avoid contamination if appropriate
  • To ensure that dietary requirements are supported and clearly recorded
  • To ensure food provision is carried out within the guidelines of the food safety act 1990, and is balanced and healthy in accordance with dietary need
  • To be able to operate kitchen machinery eg blender, oven, grill etc
  • To keep all food preparation areas clean, adhering to food and hygiene regulations and guidance
  • To ensure kitchen is cleaned and prepared for the following day at the end of each day, preparing ahead if possible for the next day



  • To develop and maintain good relationships within the team
  • To conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times
  • To consult with the team regarding any allergy or issue relating to the menu for specific families or children
  • To communicate with the Head Chef as required
